Last night's council meeting was great, thank you to everyone who gave up their evening to come out. We learned more about our school development plan, the fantastic talents of the Rogue Naturalist, and about many of the unique things going on at Belfast. If you weren't able to make it out please check the Minutes page, there you will see the minutes of the meeting and also the slideshow presentation from the administration team.
I know it's early in the year and no one is looking ahead yet to June, except maybe for the warmer weather, but we looking for Grade 6 parents. We are beginning the planning process for our Grade 6 Farewell. Each year School Council partners with teachers and staff to put on a Farewell for our Grade 6 students. We would like to have a committee to work together in the planning and execution of this event. If you are interested please email Robbie-Lynn Nichol [email protected] or feel free to sign up in the school. There is a sign up sheet on the School Council bulletin board. |
Belfast School Council has had a busy year so far, we would love to share with you what we have been up to at our amazing school. To begin the year Council helped with the Terry Fox Run. We were asked to handout popsicle sticks to students as they ran laps for Terry Fox. Each popsicle stick represented one full lap. The students did a fantastic job and sure kept us busy handing out over 100 sticks. In October we had the privilege of helping out with the We Care Club Halloween Family Dance. As a council we decided to donate the funds for the We Care Club's concession. With our help and the super enthusiasm of Belfast families the We Care Club met their goal of raising $10 000. This is the culminations of years of hard work and we are so thrilled that they will now be able to build a school in Haiti and help even more students go to school. In November we honoured our Veteran by supporting the school's Food Bank Collection. Thank you to Tabatha for finding a local project for us to support. The project was put on by students at SAIT and you can find more information here. globalnews.ca/news/3066598/calgary-students-try-to-fill-the-boeing-for-veterans-food-bank/ We would also like to send a special thank you to Kyle Nichol for playing the bagpipes for our Remembrance Day Assembly. It added a lot to our day. December was another busy month at Belfast. This year the students and staff presented The Rockin' Tale of Snow White. School Council hosted a concession over the course of the 3 performances. Thank you to all of the parents who came out and volunteered their time to make this a great fundraiser. We were able to raise $920 to support our school. A special thank you to Corinne Davis and Irena Kangas for their amazing baked goods. Your cupcakes and cookies blew us away and exceeded our expectations. |
